Billcue

Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-07-25 · Last updated 2026-07-25

Billcue is a bill organizer. It keeps your bills in one place and reminds you before each due date. Your bills stay on your phone. We do not ask for your bank, we do not read your email, and we have no account to sign in to.

Status of this document. Billcue has not shipped yet. This policy describes what the app is designed to do, based on its build specification — not an audit of released code. It will be reviewed and corrected against the shipped app before the first public release. If you find anything here that does not match the app you are using, please tell us and we will fix the document, not the story.

1. What stays on your device

Everything that actually describes your bills is stored locally, in a database on your phone:

This local database is the app's source of truth. Billcue works with no network connection. Reminders are scheduled by your device's own operating system, so they fire even when you are offline and even if our servers are down — because there is no server involved in reminding you.

Photos of bills (scanning)

If you scan a bill, the text is read on your device using the operating system's built-in text recognition (ML Kit on Android, Vision on iOS). The photo never leaves your phone and is not uploaded anywhere. We never receive the image or the text extracted from it.

2. What we never ask for

The only permission Billcue asks for is notifications, and it asks only after you have added a bill — so you can see what the permission is for before deciding.

3. Third-party services we do use

Billcue uses a small number of services to know whether the app works, to run subscriptions, and to send lifecycle messages. None of them receive your bill contents.

Service What it receives Why
Firebase
(Google)
Anonymous usage events and crash reports. Events carry counts and categories — for example a bill was added, a reminder was opened, how many days until due — but never the name of a bill, the amount, or any text you typed. Crash reports include the error, your device model, and OS version. To see whether reminders actually reach people, and to find crashes.
RevenueCat Your subscription state, which product you bought, and the receipt issued by Apple or Google. To know whether Billcue Pro is active on your device, and to restore purchases.
Superwall That a paywall was shown, which version of it, and whether it was closed or purchased. To improve the upgrade screen without shipping a new app version.
OneSignal Your device's push token and whether you are subscribed to messages. This is the most identifying thing the app handles. To send occasional product messages (tips, re-engagement). Your bill due-date reminders do not go through OneSignal — those are scheduled locally by your device.
Branch Only when you deliberately send a bill to someone: the link you generate carries that one bill's name, amount and due date so the recipient's app can pre-fill it. Branch also records that a link was opened, and whether an install came from a link. To make "send a bill to my partner" work, including when they do not have the app yet.

Because Billcue has no account, these services identify your app installation with a randomly generated identifier, not with your name, email, or phone number.

4. Sharing a bill — the one case data leaves your phone

If you tap Send to someone, Billcue creates a link containing the details of that single bill so the person you send it to can add it without retyping. This only ever happens when you choose to do it.

5. Children

Billcue is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

6. Data retention and deletion

Your bills live on your phone, so deleting the app deletes your bills. There is nothing for us to delete on your behalf, because we never had it. If you want the analytics and messaging services above to stop receiving anything, turn off notifications and uninstall the app; you can also email us and we will pass a deletion request to those providers for your installation identifier if you can supply it.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top and note what changed. The first substantive revision is already planned: a review against the shipped code before public release.
